Anchorman’s Home Ransacked After He Told How to Ward Off Thieves

ALTOONA, Pa. — Burglars apparently watched television anchorman Brandon Brooks’ report on how homeowners can protect their property from thieves, then broke into his home a week later, according to police.
While Brooks was anchoring last Wednesday’s 11 p.m. newscast for WTAJ-TV, burglars broke into his house and made off with his television, videotape recorder, furniture and other property, police Lt. Gordon Williams said.
Brooks had allowed police to use his house to show protective devices to foil a thief. Investigators say they believe the burglars watched Brooks’ broadcast and noticed all the safety devices described, including double locks and a gadget that jams the windows from outside.
But they took an inventory of his belongings too, police said.
The thieves, who have not been caught, broke into Brooks’ house by smashing a window, Williams said. The house was not equipped with a burglar alarm.
Brooks was unavailable for comment, according to the television station.
