The Mexican Olympic Committee announced that at least 35 countries--including the United States and the Soviet Union--will compete in a 51-day sports event in Mexico this spring called the 1st Olympic Festival.
Mario Vazquez-Rana, president of the Mexican Olympic Committee, said the festival was designed to prepare athletes for the 10th Pan American Games at Indianapolis in August.
The festival, to be held March 28-May 17 in Mexico City, will draw more than 3,000 atheletes who will compete in 42 events.
Vazquez-Rana said the sports superpowers, including East Germany, Cuba and China, will send teams for marksmanship, diving and certain track and field events.
