Tower Commission Report on Iran-Contra Scandal

We still have a Teflon presidency. He was caught with the smoking gun and all we can say is that the poor dear was misled, and the most serious charge we file is that he was lazy, careless and perhaps little fuzzy.
We imply that we will forgive him if he just promises to pay more attention in the future, and not to play with those nasty people anymore. We seem to need to forget that he personally endorsed ransoming the hostages; personally endorsed arming the contras against the wishes of Congress and the people. That he not only appointed and tolerated power-mad scoundrels, but even after their usually anti-social and sometimes illegal activities were unmasked, he staunchly defended them until public opinion forced them to resign.
He must take responsibility for being in favor of their goals even if he may have been unaware of some of the methods.
