U.S. Visit by German Pilots

I am amazed that some Americans have such short memories. More than 1,000 people who paid $25 each crammed into a hall in Long Beach to hear how five ex-Luftwaffe pilots shot down 821 Allied airplanes. These coldblooded Nazi butchers who had killed only God knows how many American fliers were “greeted with reverence usually reserved for elder statesmen or baseball greats,” according to The Times account (Feb. 22).
As one who served for more than five years in World War II (2 1/2 years overseas), I am disappointed that my fellow Americans can forget so soon--or at all.
