GUATEMALA CITY — A clash between an army patrol and leftist guerrillas in northern Quiche province killed four rebels and three soldiers, including a second lieutenant, an army communique said Saturday.
Five soldiers were wounded in the fighting Friday near Chajul, 170 miles north of Guatemala City, it said.
The Guerrilla Army of the Poor operates in the region. It is one of four guerrilla groups, united as the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Union, that have been fighting for 25 years.
