An Ethiopian air force plane carrying 54 people crashed shortly after taking off from Asmara in northern Ethiopia. The official Ethiopian radio said that all aboard were killed after the plane “developed sudden problems” on a flight to Addis Ababa. Asmara is the capital of Eritrea province, where rebels have been fighting a war for independence for about 25 years.
