More than 20 striking Compton teachers and sympathizers were arrested and booked for investigation of trespassing Tuesday night after they refused to leave the school district headquarters.
The teachers, members of the Compton Education Assn., were asked to leave because district officials wanted to secure the building, Compton Police Lt. M.D. Bunton said. There was no resistance, he said, adding that the 12 women and 8 men were released on $250 bail each.
Teachers, who struck Monday, said they plan to stay off the job again today to protest an impasse with the district over their demand for a 7.3% raise. Teachers complain that their pay is the lowest among the 43 school districts in the county.
