Singer William Hargrave

William Hargrave, a bass-baritone who won the 1944 Metropolitan Opera Auditions of the Air and went on to a brief career with the Met, died Saturday in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sepulveda. He was 86.
Hargrave made his Metropolitan debut as a nobleman in “Lohengrin” in 1944 and from that year until 1947 he sang Ferrando in “Il Trovatore,” and Monterone and Sparafucile in “Rigoletto.”
Survivors include his wife, Muriel, three sons, two brothers and a sister.
