A van carrying 17 orphans from Mexico to sing at a church convention in Los Angeles overturned on the Santa Monica Freeway near Maple Avenue, but authorities said none of the passengers was seriously hurt. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics said 16 children under 10 years old and one teen-ager, accompanied by an adult, had come from Tijuana to sing in the church program, and were nearing their destination when the van went out of control and skidded for several feet on its side. Although no one appeared to be hurt, the passengers were taken to Childrens Hospital for examination.
