PENN PALS

I was disturbed by Jack Matthews’ article on Sean Penn (“Penn in Search of Hand,” by Jack Mathews, Sept. 24).

Whatever one may think of Penn and Madonna, the article was a pointless and infantile smear which one would not expect from a newspaper of the L.A. Times stature.

There are many worthwhile and fascinating topics which could be explored by Calendar’s writers. Please don’t waste time and space with petty attacks on celebrities.
