Rally to Protest Proposition 64

An organization aimed at defeating Proposition 64, the so-called AIDS quarantine proposal, has scheduled a torchlight rally on Monday in front of the Los Feliz Boulevard headquarters of the followers of Lyndon LaRouche.
The ultraconservative LaRouche group was instrumental in getting the proposition on the November ballot.
Among those expected to attend are Jackie Goldberg, member of the Los Angeles school board; Patty Duke, president of the Screen Actors Guild, and Los Angeles Councilman Joel Wachs, according to event sponsors.
The rally is to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Friendship Auditorium, 3201 Riverside Drive, with a march to LaRouche offices at 3200 Los Feliz Blvd.
Proposition 64 would give acquired immune deficiency syndrome the legal status of an infectious disease, authorize a quarantine of its victims and bar them from certain jobs.
Rally organizers say that the proposition is not backed by medical facts and that its passage would lead to widespread discrimination.
