Duarte : Meeting on Trash Disposal
Officials from 28 San Gabriel Valley cities will meet at 7:30 tonight at Duarte City Hall to begin considering trash disposal alternatives for the region.
Walnut Councilman Harvey Holden, who heads the new waste management task force of the San Gabriel Valley Assn. of Cities, said one company that is working on a plan to transport trash by rail to remote disposal areas and another that wants to develop a bioconversion composting plant will make presentations at the meeting. Holden said these and other alternatives will be explored during the next year by the task force in an effort to develop a consensus on future trash disposal.
Holden said experts from the county Sanitation Districts and the BKK Corp. will provide technical advice. There are 27 cities, from La Canada Flintridge to Pomona, that are members of the association, Holden said. The city of South El Monte will send an observer to the task force meeting although it is not a member, he said.
