SOLSTICE FESTIVAL TO OPEN TODAY

There will be performers, art activities and games for families at the first City Summer Solstice Celebration to be held today and Sunday at the Los Angeles Children’s Museum, 310 N. Main St. The festival is funded in part by a grant from the Los Angeles City Cultural Affairs Department.
Events are set from noon to 9 p.m. each day on the Los Angeles Mall next to the museum. There will be opening pageants with puppets and parades both days.
Other activities will include art workshops to make body ornaments, masks and musical instruments and continuous entertainment, including the Adowa African Drummers, the Grey Eagles Native American Dancers, the Clan McColin Glendarry Celtic dancers, storytellers, clowns and mimes.
Participants will also make a giant sundial on Main Street and an inflatable sun sculpture.
