Red Wings Will Switch Training Camp to Flint

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings will move their training camp from Port Huron to Flint’s IMA Sports Arena this fall, General Manager Jim Devellano says.
The Flint arena offers an ice surface that matches the dimensions of Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, where the club plays its regular-season National Hockey League games, Devellano said.
The Red Wings have trained at Port Huron’s McMorran Arena for the past three seasons and also held fall workouts there during the early 1970s, when the club had a minor league affiliate there, said arena general manager Morris Snider.
Devellano said McMorran’s 185-foot ice surface was the major factor in the change.
