CHAPMAN COLLEGE TO HOLD ITS FIRST STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL

Student films shot on location ranging from the Balboa Peninsula to Death Valley to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, will be screened tonight at the Lido Cinema in Newport Beach in the first Chapman College Student Film Festival.

The event was created to focus attention on the college’s film department. Among the titles of the movies made by some 160 film students during the past four years are “The Cocktail Party” (1983), “Quiet on the Set” (1984), “Countermoves” (1985) and “Heavy Metal Massacre” (1986).

Students worked in teams to write, direct, act in, light, shoot and edit 16mm films. Newport Beach-based Edwards Theatres Circuit Inc. donated use of the Lido Cinema for the event, which begins at 8:30 p.m.

Tax-deductible tickets are $7 general admission and $4 for Chapman students. Proceeds will benefit the film department. Because one of the student films deals with the plight of missing children, some of the proceeds will go to assist the search for Orange County’s missing children.
