Faith Survives Political Turmoil, Church Group Says

NEW YORK — Back from a visit to El Salvador and Nicaragua, seven representatives of the National Council of Churches say Christianity there remains strong and active despite the turmoil.
The Rev. Arie R. Brouwer, general secretary of the multidenominational organization, said the group met with Protestant and Roman Catholic leaders, pastors and people representing various political opinions.
He added: “In the midst of political tensions and warfare, they are part of a faith community that is vibrant and active.”
