Avants Wins NASCAR Race on the Final Lap

Roger Avants of Littleton, Colo., won the opening race of the NASCAR Southwest Tour for All-American Challenge Series stock cars Saturday night, going ahead for good on the final lap at Saugus Speedway.

Avants, who drove a Chevrolet Camaro, averaged 54.21 m.p.h. in a race slowed five times by caution. He took the lead when leaders Roman Calczynski and Ivan Baldwin tangled in the second turn on the last lap.
