Two Senators Delay Trip to Middle East

WASHINGTON — Two Democratic senators postponed a planned visit today to Israel, Egypt and Jordan because of threats of terrorist attacks on Americans traveling in the Middle East.
At the State Department, deputy spokesman Charles Redman said the Administration had asked a number of senators, representatives and congressional staff members to reassess their Easter week travel plans to the Middle East because of the security threat.
Sens. J. Bennett Johnston (D-La.) and Gary Hart (D-Colo.) announced the postponement of their trip after Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi threatened attacks on Americans.
Kadafi issued the warning after this week’s military confrontation between the United States and Libya in the Gulf of Sidra.
