A street gang member who police suspect was involved in a shooting attack on five people in South-Central Los Angeles last year was shot and killed in the same area by a rival gang member, police reported. Anthony Hunter, 21, was killed near a liquor store in the 5600 block of South Compton Avenue, Detective Ken Welty said. Hunter and some friends had gotten into a dispute with rival gang members in the parking lot next to the liquor store. During the argument, a rival allegedly drew a handgun, shot Hunter in the chest and fled on foot, police said. Detectives said Hunter apparently had been involved in the gunshot wounding of five people at 55th Street and Compton Avenue last year. He was arrested, but the district attorney dropped the charge for lack of evidence, Welty said.
