Time is not interested in merging with Gannett Co.

However, a spokesman for Time Inc. confirmed that the subject was raised when executives of the two media giants conferred privately last week. “Yes, our people did meet with Gannett, and the talks were really about a wide variety of subjects,” Time spokesman Louis J. Slovinsky said. He said a merger was one of the subjects, but he described it as a minor part of a larger discussion between J. Richard Munro, Time’s chairman and chief executive, and Allen Neuharth, Gannett’s chairman and chief executive. Slovinsky refused to elaborate on what was discussed.
