A 17-year-old high school student from El Toro in Orange County was kidnaped on her way to school Thursday morning and forced to drive to the border at San Ysidro, police reported.
Amy Jean Costales was driving to school about 7 a.m. when a young man approached her at a stop sign and asked for a ride to school. Robinson said Costales thought the man went to El Toro High School and agreed to give him a ride. Once he was in the car, however, the man pointed what may have been a .45-caliber pistol at her and told her to drive to the border, said San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson.
Costales complied and when she took a San Ysidro exit off the freeway, the man jumped out of the car and ran west. Costales then called home, where relatives contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
