The Coast Guard fired into a Colombian ship loaded with 28 tons of marijuana when the smugglers ignored warning shots and sank the boat in international waters, injuring one member of the Colombian crew, officials said. Although the incident occurred in international waters, the Coast Guard obtained approval from the Colombian government before confronting the vessel, officials said.
