Syntex sold its contact lens unit for $60 million.

The Palo Alto drug company said that Pilkington will purchase its contact lens company, Syntex Ophthalmics of Phoenix, for cash, subject to approval from regulators in the United States and Britain. Pilkington, based in England, said it expects the sale to be completed by year-end.
