Girls Volleyball Roundup : Sonora Advances in First Round of 3-A Volleyball

The Sonora High School volleyball team, ranked fourth in the 3-A CIF Southern Section seedings, moved through the first round of the playoffs with ease Wednesday, beating Yucaipa, 3-0, at Sonora.
The Raiders (19-1) took the victory by scores of 15-5, 15-9, 15-2 over the Sunkist League’s third-place team. The Freeway League champions received a fine effort from middle blockers Susan Herman and Toni Hayes. Back row specialist Tracee Allen won seven straight serves in the second game and Dani Roy had a serving streak of five in the third game.
In other 3-A volleyball action Wednesday:
La Habra 3, Monrovia 0--The Highlanders (13-5) handled the Wildcats (10-6), 15-6, 15-5, 15-6. La Habra, the Freeway League’s second-place team, was helped by setter Deanna Stafford’s best performance of the season. Outside hitters Tina Diaz and Susan Wood, along with middle blockers Robin Seabrook and Bridgette Austin, also played well.
