Buena Park : Man Faces Charges in Barricade Incident

A Buena Park man faces robbery charges after seizing a city fire inspector’s badge at gunpoint and then barricading himself in his home for 14 hours, police said.
Ronald Chavez, 38, was charged with robbery and failure to pay outstanding traffic warrants after surrendering to police at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday. Chavez had refused to leave his residence at 7454 McNeil Lane despite police negotiations, officials said.
Chavez, who had been cited two weeks earlier for storing trash and old furniture that fire officials said were fire hazards, confronted Inspector Harold Dillon at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when Dillon arrived for another inspection, police said.
After barricading himself inside the house, Chavez reportedly fired shots with what police believe was a track starter’s pistol.
Buena Park Police Lt. Ken Baguley said that several neighbors were evacuated as a precaution and that two handguns, two starter pistols and ammunition were recovered from Chavez’s residence.
