WASHINGTON — A man arrested for attempting to jump the fence on the east side of the White House was in critical condition Wednesday after hanging himself in a jail cell, officials said.
Robert Edward Watson, 24, of Baltimore, was jailed early Wednesday after his arrest by the Secret Service on a charge of attempted unlawful entry. He later used his bootlaces to hang himself from the cell bars, officials said.
Watson was on life support equipment at Georgetown University Hospital, said police spokesman Joseph Gentile.
