Ports Bar Vessel With Dying Camels

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain — A cargo ship with 300 camels on board has been refused entry to several West African ports because the animals are dying, a Spanish maritime radio-monitoring station reported Wednesday.
The station said that the Panamanian-registered vessel Winston was carrying the camels from Dakar, Senegal, to the Western Sahara port of El Aaiun for Morocco’s Agriculture Ministry.
Port authorities at El Aaiun, however, turned the vessel away because of the camels’ condition. The Winston’s captain, Spaniard Tomas Moreno, said the animals were being thrown overboard as they died.
