Spurred by strong revenue growth in its three operating groups, second-quarter profit rose 43% over the year-earlier period, El Segundo-based Computer Sciences Corp. reported.
Net earnings for the quarter ended Sept. 27 were $4.9 million, up from $3.4 million a year ago. Revenue increased by 22% to $209.3 million from $172 million.
William R. Hoover, chairman and president of the computer services company, said the company’s quarterly performance “again exceeded our expectations. The results reflect continued improvement in our marketing and operational performance, with major revenue gains recorded in both our federal and commercial markets.”
All three of the company’s operating groups surpassed their revenue and profit plans for the quarter.
The higher revenue produced operating income of $13 million, up 25% from the $10.4 million posted a year ago. Operating income is before interest and other income, corporate, general and administrative expenses and income taxes.
