Shultz Urges Jordan Arms Sale

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State George P. Shultz urged Congress today to approve a $1.9-billion arms sale to Jordan, hinting that if it is denied King Hussein may well turn to the Soviet Union as an arms supplier.
“A major Soviet role in Jordan, of course, would constitute a serious setback for the U.S. and for Israel,” Shultz told the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
