Clipper General Manager Carl Scheer said that representatives of former Laker forward Jamaal Wilkes will tell him this week if Wilkes wants to play for the Clippers. If so, the Clippers will test Wilkes’ left knee, which he injured in February, and most likely sign him if he passes the physical.
Wilkes, 33, can be signed to the NBA’s minimum contract, $70,000, since the Lakers are paying the remainder of his $860,000.
“I met with Naomi Wilkes (Jamaal’s sister and agent) last week and she told me that Chicago and the (New York) Knicks and Seattle were interested, but that Jamaal is interested in the Clippers. She said she’d get back to us either today (Tuesday) or Wednesday. We’d like to get him if his (left knee) ligaments are healed.”
