In Final Action : Safety Improvements for School Buses
- Share via
Legislation to require safer school buses and a study of whether they should have seat belts is on Gov. George Deukmejian’s desk. The Assembly voted 78 to 0 for the bill by Assemblyman Richard Robinson (D-Garden Grove) that would require all California school buses to meet federal safety standards by 1991. The standards include interior padding, high seat backs, strong bodies, roll bars and strong windows. The bill would also require the California Highway Patrol and the Education Department to recommend to the Legislature by Jan. 15 whether seat belts should be installed.
