Alain Prost of France won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Italy, fighting off a late bid by Brazil’s Nelson Piquet.
Prost’s win, his fifth this year and 21st of his career, gave him 65 points and a 12-point lead over second-place Michele Alboreto of Italy in the Formula One drivers championship standings.
