2 Admit Roles in Illegal Immigrant Smuggling Ring

Two men pleaded guilty in Los Angeles federal court Tuesday to charges that they schemed to smuggle illegal immigrants from Taiwan and China into this country.
James Chen Chun Lee, 40, a resident alien from China living in Alhambra, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and Li-Sheng Fu, 40, of El Monte, pleaded guilty to one count of illegal entry into the country.
The two were among five persons arrested by federal authorities who alleged that the ring charged as much as $10,000 a person to smuggle Chinese immigrants into the United States through Mexico and Central America. Sentencing was set for Sept. 27.
