The remnants of Hurricane Danny doused Virginia and North Carolina with heavy rain, causing local flooding that made some roads and bridges impassable. Eight inches of rain fell in Stuart, Va., near the North Carolina border, the National Weather Service said. Floods damaged a Stuart hardware store and a construction company. Up to five inches of rain fell across North Carolina. Flooding in both states washed out many roads and bridges, but no injuries were reported.
