ALGIERS, Algeria — The Polisario rebel movement, fighting for the independence of the Western Sahara, said in a communique Saturday that its guerrillas killed 30 Moroccan soldiers in the territory during the first 11 days of August.
The communique, carried by the Algerian news agency APS, said another 50 Moroccans were wounded during various attacks and shelling of Moroccan outposts.
In Casablanca, the pro-government Moroccan daily newspaper Le Matin reported Friday that a new line of defenses, expected to establish Morocco’s military control over two-thirds of the disputed territory, is about to be completed.
