Alain Prost of France drove a McLaren-Porsche to a track lap record on the first day of trials for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix at Zeltweg, Austria. Prost averaged 155.13 m.p.h., and his best time over the 3.68-mile course was 1 minute 25.49 seconds. Niki Lauda of Austria, Prost’s teammate, was second in 1:26.25.
Prost broke the record of 1:26.33 set last year by Brazilian Nelson Piquet.
