Six pay phones, complete with pedestals, were ripped from the ground in North County this week, bringing the total number of violent disconnections to 14 since July 30.
“This is certainly going beyond the prank stage,” said Pacific Bell spokesman Tom McNaghten. “You’re getting into criminal acts with a capital C.”
McNaghten said the latest incident took place late Thursday night at the Orange Glen Elementary School on East Valley Parkway in Escondido, about two blocks from where the first phone was taken. San Diego Sheriff’s deputies have speculated that the phones are being chained to a pickup truck and dragged from their mountings.
