Envoy’s Driver Killed in Beirut

BEIRUT — Christian militiamen today shot at a motorcade taking the West German ambassador across Beirut’s Green Line battle zone, killing his Lebanese driver, militia officials and radio reports said.
Christian Voice of Lebanon radio said three masked gunmen opened fire on the motorcade with automatic weapons on the eastern side of a main highway running between Christian east Beirut and the mostly Muslim west. No other casualties were reported.
