A convicted robber who escaped from the California Institution for Men at Chino last week is back in custody, prison officials announced. Patrick David Ramirez, 29, called the prison watch commander Sunday afternoon and said he wanted to turn himself in. Prison officers met Ramirez at a home in Ontario and took him back to Chino, Lt. Paul Washington said. The convict escaped last Tuesday while working in a minimum-security area. Washington said escape charges will be filed against Ramirez, who is serving a seven-year sentence for armed robbery and grand theft.
