Mayor Tom Bradley toured the site of the Watts riots and declared, “We’ve come a long way.” During a 30-minute tour of the area, which was gutted by riots 20 years ago, Bradley said, “We’re proud of Watts and the people who live here.” Speaking in front of the Watts Health Foundation, Bradley said the greatest improvements in the area have come in providing better medical care and more affordable housing. However, poverty and unemployment continue to plague Watts, he said.
