An electrical malfunction sparked a fire in a basement sauna at the Meadowlands race track in East Rutherford, N.J., but no injuries were reported.
The track was closed to the public when the fire broke out at about 11:30 a.m. in the jockey quarters, said Sam Anzalone, the track’s general manager.
He said only the sauna and an adjacent dressing room in the 2,000-square-foot basement complex were damaged before the flames were extinguished about two hours later.
Racing will resume as scheduled tonight, Anzalone said.
