The space shuttle Challenger, bolted atop a jumbo jet, returned to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to undergo preparations for its next flight in late October. Challenger landed at California’s Edwards Air Force Base last Tuesday after an eight-day mission that began with a premature engine shutdown. An inspection showed no engine damage. However, one heat sensor was found to be faulty and it was thought to be responsible for the premature shutdown.
