A man accused of kidnaping a 19-month-old girl in Venice four years ago and taking her to Alaska faces a November trial on federal charges that could bring a life prison term, a prosecutor said. U.S. District Judge William Matthew Byrne Jr. ordered John Robert Altig, 58, to stand trial Nov. 26 on charges he kidnaped Elvia Vasquez, now 5, on Aug. 25, 1981. She was found last January living with Altig in an Anchorage trailer park under the name Crystal Morgan. Altig was also charged with violating the Mann Act.
