SOUTH GATE — Dr. E. Sheldon Dunlap, a former city councilman and Planning Commission chairman, died Monday at Downey Community Hospital at the age of 84.
Dunlap served for 30 years as a planning commissioner before he stepped down in June and was a Planning Commission chairman for five of those years. He also served as a councilman in 1973-74, filling an unexpired term.
Dunlap was admitted for heart disease, said Grant Miller, the hospital’s director of public relations.
Dunlap, a South Gate chiropractor, is survived by his wife, Louvisa, of South Gate; a daughter, Mrs. Bert Gallant of Long Beach; a son, Joe Dunlap of Albuquerque, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Dunlap was held Thursday at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
