A Bum Trip

I read Jerry Hulse’s article in the July 21 edition called “A Bum Trip.” In some of the facts, I have to agree with him. Where I have to disagree with him is on check-in requirements. Having been in the hotel/motel industry for over 20 years, I have found a great change in the attitude and requirements in registering guests. It used to be that you could say, “I’ll pay on check-out,” and they took you at your word, but those days are gone. As for the handling of your meals, I am finding that if a customer has paid cash for the lodging, he has no credit and cannot charge anything to the room. It is only good business practice.

Good business practice to awaken a guest at 10 p.m. and ask for more money?
