Bernstein should read the book, “The Prisoner And The Bomb,” by Laurens van der Post (Morrow, 1971). If the atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki had not ended the war abruptly, thousands of prisoners and internees in Japanese camps in Southeast Asia would have perished.
