Dodgers Turn Back Reds, 5-3

CINCINNATI — Ken Landreaux and Pedro Guerrero hit home runs to lead the Dodgers to a 5-3 victory Friday night over the Cincinnati Reds in the first game of a doubleheader.

Landreaux hit a solo home run and Guerrero added a three-run homer to help Orel Hershiser (12-3) earn his fourth consecutive victory.

The right-hander struggled through seven innings, giving up eight hits and striking out only one batter. Tom Niedenfuer pitched the final two innings to gain his ninth save of the season.

The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the second on Mike Scioscia’s run-scoring single and Landreaux led off the third inning with his eighth home run, off starter Ron Robinson (5-3).

Tom Foley led off the bottom of the third inning with a double and scored on Dann Bilardello’s single.

Guerrero’s 24th homer of the season made it 5-1 in the fifth and chased Robinson, who lost his third consecutive game.

The homer gave Guerrero an 11-game hitting streak and 19 home runs in his last 44 games.

The Reds scored a run in the fifth on Max Venable’s sacrifice fly and another in the seventh when Gary Redus singled, stole second, took third on a grounder and scored on Wayne Krenchicki’s grounder.
