Many View Vapor Trail of Vandenberg Rocket

A Scout booster rocket lofted two Navy navigational satellites into orbit from Vandenberg Air Force Base on Friday, and a spectacular vapor trail in the sky was visible as far away as Las Vegas.
Navy Capt. Tim Nixon said the launch occurred at 8:31 p.m., and left “a long stream of gray streaks” in the sky that brought a flood of inquiries to police, sheriff’s and fire department switchboards throughout Southern California.
“And we even got a few inquiries from Nevada,” said Nixon.
