Marvin Wolf and Robert M. Smith (Letters, July 15) took The Times to task for affording Eqbal Ahmad a forum (Editorial Pages, July 8) for his interpretation of the roots and dynamics of political terrorism.
In a period when all sides and interests in the Middle East must receive a fair hearing, it is critical that you resist ideologically motivated demands for censorship and prior restraint. The readers of your pages need not be sheltered; they are capable of forming their own opinions.
Please hold true to your principles and continue to offer to all an open forum for robust debate. That is the true meaning and objective of freedom of speech and press.
