Police are searching for two suspects in the fatal shooting of a Pasadena man in Villa Parke late Saturday night.
The park, at Los Robles Avenue and Villa Street, has been the focus of recent police efforts to crack down on the sale of narcotics, including marijuana, cocaine and heroin.
The shooting, however, did not appear to be drug-related, Detective Monte Yancey said.
Alfredo Lopez Zain, 31, and three friends had stopped in the park about 11 p.m. to use a public restroom, when they were approached by two men who attempted to rob them, Yancey said.
When Zain resisted, one of the robbers shot him in the chest.
Zain, who lived in the Villa Parke neighborhood with his wife and three children, died at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Yancey said.
Police described the two suspects as being in their late teens or early 20s.
